In February of 2014, the official production version of the S-Class coupé was announced and subsequently unveiled to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March of the same year. The S500, which is also known as the S550 in the United States, made its debut at the Geneva show. Later, in April of 2014, Mercedes showcased the S 63 AMG 4MATIC model for the first time during the New York Auto Show. The S65 AMG model, which boasts a V12 Bi-Turbo engine, was also revealed a few months later in July of 2014.
In September of 2017, the facelifted version of the S-Class Coupé was introduced at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show, with the S500/550 nameplate being replaced by the S560. This update brought with it a brand new range of engines, including the M177 4.0 V8 Biturbo which replaced the old M157 5.5 V8 Biturbo in the AMG S63 4MATIC+. The AMG S63 now features 4MATIC+ All Wheel Drive with drift mode as standard, while the S560 uses a detuned version of the same engine known as the M176.
Under the Mercedes-AMG sub-brand, the S-Class coupé also received a second model - the S 63 AMG. This model features a 5.5L turbocharged V8 engine and is the performance-oriented V8 within the S-Class lineup. The S63 is offered with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, though in the United States, it only comes with all-wheel drive (without Magic Body Control).
