The eighth version of the Corvette sports car is known as the Chevrolet Corvette (C8) and is produced by American automaker Chevrolet. It is the first mid-engine Corvette since the model was introduced in 1953 (as well as GM's first production mid-engine sports car since the Pontiac Fiero was discontinued in 1988), a radical departure from the conventional front-engine design, and follows a number of experimental CERV prototype cars supported by the "Father of the Corvette," Zora Arkus-Duntov. The C8 was unveiled in April 2019, and the coupe made its public debut on July 18, 2019, at a media event in Southern California commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission and featuring two NASA astronauts. In October 2019, the convertible made its public debut at the Kennedy Space Center.
